SVA is a culmination of the felt need of several community-based organizations those were started in response to the cause of under-development and deprivation of the people of western Orissa. In the beginning the campaign, highlighting the issues of western Orissa, was catapulted by a few associated CBO's and individuals in the late 1980's which finally emerged into an organisation in 1993 as Sahabhagi Vikash Abhiyan (SVA), which literally means "Campaign for Participatory Development". SVA got registered under the Society Registration Act of 1860 in the year 1996. The organisation since its inception has been working primarily in 4 districts of western Orissa viz; Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Bargarh. On issue based campaign the organisation has a state as well as national presence.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To establish a society where there will be no poverty and injustice and where the people play the role as subject in the economic, social, cultural and political process that affects their life, a society where people have constant access to decision making process and the power that affects their life.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
Sahabhagi Vikash Abhiyan promotes the development activities through action research, educational activities and provides support services to social workers and voluntary organisations in Orissa.
THE AIMS ARE:
To provide a range of resources that will increase the effectiveness of Community Based Voluntary Organisations. To undertake study, research and evaluation programme of functioning of development organisations, foundations and trusts engaged in public welfare and development activities. To undertake study, research and evaluation programmes and also to provide consultancy service in the areas of Education, Self employment , Agriculture, Health, Nutrition, Child Development and Women Welfare. To provide necessary assistance and service for the vocational training/ income generation projects for artisans, youth, women, handicapped and socio economically backward people. To provide guidance and support to development organisations in policy making, programme planning, organisation design, system development and monitoring. To promote, develop and improve scientific exchange of knowledge as well as technical co-operation between similar development and research institutions. To organise seminars, workshops, discussions, exchange education programme, demonstrations, exhibitions, symposia, conference etc. on social issues and development. To provide stipend/fellowship to the needy persons and to people belonging to backward communities and to disseminate information to them with regard to accelerating their academic growth and self sufficiency. To undertake relief and rehabilitation activities incase of emergency situation and natural calamities.
